| Hi-oh! Ok, so it has been a wee-bit-o-a-while since last I wrote, so my bad. I have been too busy living life at full throttle to pop onto the internet and download thoughts...but due to an unexpected four hour hippie traffic jam on the way to Wakarusa, here I am!
I was supposed to work at the KJ tent today at noon, but after sitting in my car from 11:20 to 12:30 and only moving 30 feet or so, I decided time would be best spent elsewhere. So here's to an unplanned free hour!

UPDATE:
I walked down the hill last month, for those of you who are out of the loop. School is pretty much done, though I am taking 6 hours in the Fall so I can go to Scotland in the spring with the help of financial aid. I am so pumped. This summer has been rocking my face off. I have more time to devote to k10 and bike rides and good books and my Z's family and long conversations about life...and I fall more in love with Lawrence everyday.
For all the "life" that is ahead of me and all my friends in my place right now (the turbulent twenties, post-college life) it has been so helpful for me to accept my role as a sheep...Isaac talked about this at the Gathering a few months ago, but I am really feeling it now as I look out into a whole life of unknown. It is good to know that I am not the guide, that I am not in control, that there is someone infinitely bigger, wiser, more creative and more intimate guiding my steps, guiding our steps.
Happy summer my friends! Drink plenty of water and get plenty of sunshine! Oh, and don't worry so much...there's really no use, so enjoy what is going on in the moment.
AND NOW A SUMMERTIME LIST:
ride your bike somewhere everyday
play more catch
cook on the grill
avoid festival hippie traffic
wake up early
sit in front of la prima taza at night and people watch
watch "so you think you can dance:, then try to copy the dancers
read something soulful
Doodle
write letters to friends
be still
come to z's east some morning to see me
love

| Last night was one of my Top 5 Experiences Whilst at KU these past four years...
Adrienne was headed back into town for a night with the ladies of 1039 and for some prophetic reason, Corinne decided we were going to eat dinner in Ottawa.
So, we chant "Ottawa, Ottawa" as we prepare for the 25 minute drive out of Lawrence on a Saturday night to hang out in Ottawa, Kansas. Yes. Most folks do the opposite.
Upon arriving on the main street, our gazes were fixed upon the blocks of brick buildings and old store fronts. Surely, we thought, there is a place to eat.
That's when I saw it, Baja Charlies'. I thought it would be mexican and I enjoyed the shinny outdoor lights. (even though it actually ended up being a burger joint with the best friggin burger I have had in awhile I was not dissapointed) Bonus.
As we parked the car (right in front mind you, not much competition downtown yet) I notice a flyer on the door...karaoke nights with Big Rick every 2nd and 4th Saturday.
Could it be? Was it indeed the 4th Saturday? Heck yes it was. And by the time 8:30 rolled around, everyone and their cousin was at Baja Charlies' to sing karaoke with the greatest Karaoke DJ I have ever known-Big Rick (and his tamborine playing partner).
I wish I could better describe to you the amazing-ness that was the crowd at Baja...I really needed a camera affixed to me head. People of every color, every hair style (my favorite was the mullet toting bad-ass with weightlifting gloves who crooned "Lady" to us).

Of course I sang. But Corinne kicked it all of by seeing "Faded" by Soul Decision. Priceless. I nearly wet myself. She even rapped the breakdown, to the delight of Big Rick (who in fact resembled a taller and fatter Rick James).

My selections were "Levon" by Elton John and of course, "Love Shack" with my sister Molly (she got a marriage proposal from a local after that one).

As we left the bar & grill, there were smiles and "good jobs" from the locals...they were sad to see us go, but not as sad as we were for leaving (but I am old and we were tired...it was only 10pm). but know this: every fourth Saturday of the month, you will find us in our little utopia in the middle of the main drag in Ottawa with Big Rick and our tamborine man.
Sorry, this was long, but believe me, it could have been longer!
| I'm back from Mississippi, and it will take me just a little while longer to process all that I saw, all that I heard, and all that I felt on that trip. There is still so much work to be done, even after almost 5 months. There is so much hope there, and gratitude. Though those people have nothing by earthly material standards they have more thankfulness and hope in their hearts than most anyone I encounter on a daily basis.
How?
I am amazed by the forces that are beyond our control...how can a highway be torn up by water? How can a casino be pushed across the street? How can giant trees be twisted and snapped like a toothpick? How can home after home be washed away?
I was most struck by the abundance of washed up photographs in the neighborhood we worked in and lived at. The images were gone or smeared into a Mark Rothko-like image...you knew it was a photo from the descriptions written on the back with pen...
Please hug whatever is serving as your shelter right now. Feel blessed that it's there. Thank God for health, for all the people He has placed in your life to make you laugh, give you hope, share this existence we have.
You give and take away. You give and take away. My heart will choose to stay. Lord blessed be Your name.
| Hey hey hey!
2006 looks to be a promising year...I have had many a blessing come my way thus far, and I am so grateful. One of these blessings is a PT job at Z's Divine Espresso!! Oh, I am so stinkin' excited about working in a coffee shop...is it weird that this is a dream of mine? Come visit me at the East store (I get to wear a headset)!
I also am heading to Mississippi on Thursday to help with Katrina relief. I have been organizing this thing for months, and I am seeing it all come together, just as God intended. Please be thinking/praying for our group as we head down there to lend a hand.
And I found a $6 vintage dress on Mass today. And it was 60 degrees outside. And I am getting money back for financial aid. And my last semester of school EVER doesn't start until the 23rd.
And I think I am going to see Ghosty play tonight for $2.
All women out there, read Captivating. Geez, talk about hitting some sensitive areas in my heart...oh and everyone should read Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell. I just bought it yesterday, and I can hardly put it down.
Ok, ta-ta for now.
